Ace Therapeutics has an advanced technology platform for antipsychotic drug development, and we are committed to providing oxidative stress testing services for psychiatric-based research to help researchers successfully achieve their research goals.

Introduction of Antioxidant Assays in Antipsychotic Therapy

A growing body of evidence suggests that an imbalance between oxidative stress and antioxidant defense systems may be associated with the development of neuropsychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety disorders. Currently, major depression and anxiety are associated with a reduced total antioxidant status and an activated oxidative stress (OS) pathway. Antioxidants may further protect the brain from neuronal damage caused by oxidative or nitrosative stressors by scavenging free radicals and inhibiting OS pathways to remove reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS), which is expected to lead to relief of depression or anxiety symptoms. A functional understanding of the relationship between oxidative stress and depression and anxiety may pave the way for the discovery of new targets for the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders.

Antioxidant Assay Services

Ace Therapeutics offers assays to measure the activity of specific antioxidants: catalase, superoxide dismutase and glutathione. In addition, we can measure the antioxidant capacity of certain biomolecules (FRAP, ORAC, HORAC and TAC) as well as test exogenous antioxidant compounds in a cell-based physiological environment.

Specifically, we provide testing services including but not limited to

  • Antioxidant capacity assay, including ferric reducing antioxidant capacity (FRAP) assay, hydroxyl radical antioxidant capacity (HORAC) assay, oxygen radical antioxidant capacity (ORAC) assay, Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) assay and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) assay
  • Antioxidant enzyme activity assay, including catalase activity assay and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity assay
  • Ascorbic acid assay (FRASC)
  • Cell-based exogenous antioxidant assay
  • Chitosan assay
  • Flavonoid assay
  • Glutathione assay, including glutathione reductase assay and total glutathione assay
  • Hydrogen sulfide gas assay
  • Total thiol assay
