Ace Therapeutics offers custom in situ Hybridization (ISH) services, including probe design, tissue procurement and professionally interpreted gene expression studies. Our scientists are highly trained in ISH and can bring you highly sensitive nucleic acid detection in your samples to accelerate your research in psychiatry.

Introduction of In Situ Hybridization in Psychiatry

In situ hybridization has played an important role in uncovering the neuroanatomical distribution and characterizing many physiologically important neuropeptides such as NPY, Orexin, CRF and NPS. These neuropeptides have been found to be downstream factors in the progression of many psychiatric disorders. Unlike other genomic expression techniques such as RT-PCR, in situ hybridization has advantages in that it not only measures the expression levels of genes, but also provides a wealth of information about their spatial location and expression patterns. These gene patterns can be associated with specific cellular phenotypes, which is important in the study of psychiatric disease progression.

In Situ Hybridization Services

Ace Therapeutics focuses on two basic methods to visualize in situ RNA and DNA targets, namely fluorescent (FISH) and colorimetric (CISH) assays. The characteristics of each assay itself (see table below) make FISH and CISH suitable for very different applications. We will help you choose the right method for your research, depending on the purpose of your experiment.

Our Technology Visualization Method Advantages Applications
CISH Bright Field Microscopy Ability to view CISH signals and histomorphology simultaneously Molecular pathology diagnosis
DNA-FISH Fluorescence Microscopy Visualize multiple targets in the same sample Gene presence, copy number and location, mutation analysis
RNA-FISH Fluorescence microscopy, HCS and flow cytometric analysis Visualize multiple targets in the same sample Gene expression, temporal and spatial localization of RNA

In Situ Hybridization Probes

  • Double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) probes
  • Single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) probes
  • RNA probes (riboprobes)
  • Synthetic oligonucleotides (PNA, LNA)
